Project Description

Northern Pike (Esox lucius) are a popular native sport fish amongst recreational anglers in certain areas of Lake Superior, such as Black Bay. However, despite being a popular target for anglers, very little is currently understood about the Black Bay Northern Pike population, and whether the current recreational regulations and commercial fishing quotas are appropriate in maintaining a quality Northern Pike fishery in the bay.

Objectives

In 2023, we plan to tag 15 Northern Pike from Black Bay with V16 transmitters.

Management Benefits

Information gathered from this project may be used to help inform decisions used in the Black Bay Fisheries Management Plan.
