Project Description

Adult hatchery brood stock of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) were tagged with acoustic tags and DST tags and released in the Bay of Quinte to begin to understand movement patterns of adult Atlantic salmon in Lake Ontario. Do they move long distances throughout the lake or do they keep a small home range? This project supplements the LOSAL project also on-going in Lake Ontario.

Objectives

To determine the whether adult hatchery Atlantic salmon have long distance movements in Lake Ontario, like their wild, anadromous counterparts in the Atlantic Ocean. Also, to reveal the type of habitat they prefer (e.g., nearshore, offshore, no preference) and general home range size.
