Movements of adult and juvenile Atlantic salmon in the Credit River

This is two projects utilizing the same receivers in the same river. Project 1: Adult hatchery brood stock (and some wild returning adult) Atlantic salmon were tagged and released into the Credit River, Ontario in the fall to determine the location of spawning grounds and when they return to Lake Ontario to improve fishway operations and assess spawning success. Project 2: Natural-reared (stocked as juveniles the previous year) and hatchery-reared smolts were tagged in the upper reaches of the Credit River and the timing and survival during the downstream migration to Lake Ontario was assessed.

• Project 1 - To determine if wild and hatchery adult Atlantic salmon use similar spawning areas in the Credit River, as well as similar out-migration timing and overwinter survival.
• Project 2 - To determine if natural-reared and hatchery-reared Atlantic salmon smolts have similar survival and timing of downstream migration. And whether low-head weirs cause delays or reduced survival to the migration to Lake Ontario.
