Characterizing Spatial and Temporal Aspects of Lake Sturgeon and Lake Whitefish Movement in Nottawasaga Bay, Lake Huron (Georgian Bay) relative to Proposed Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project Infrastructure.

Objectives

1. Deploy acoustic telemetry receivers in select locations relative to proposed infrastructure locations, and known spawning locations for lake sturgeon and lake whitefish in Nottawasaga Bay (Summer 2022).
2. Tag n=50 lake whitefish (adults) and n=40 lake sturgeon (20 juveniles and 20 spawning adults) collected from Nottawasaga Bay (both lake whitefish and lake sturgeon), and below Nicholson Dam in the Nottawasaga River (lake sturgeon) (Spring and Fall 2022)
3. Document lake whitefish and lake sturgeon movement for a minimum of two (2) years to characterize temporal and spatial movements in Nottawasaga Bay and relative to proposed pump hydro storage project infrastructure (Summer 2022-Summer 2024).
