Lake Simcoe Telemetry Array
Project Title
Habitat use, seasonal movement, and behaviour of species of management concern in Lake Simcoe
Project Code
SIMTA
Project Duration
November 2020 - November 2030
Project Description
Lake Simcoe, the largest lake in southern Ontario besides the Great Lakes, supports a diverse and popular fishery but is under pressure from nutrient loading, invasive species, urbanization, and climate change. Coldwater fishes have been particularly impacted. This project is currently focused on filling knowledge gaps about lake trout and lake whitefish movement, mortality, habitat use, and behaviour, as well as assessing potential climate change impacts. This information can inform fisheries management decisions aimed at restoring the coldwater fish community of Lake Simcoe.
